An Islamic mortar with lotus bud reliefs

Cast bronze with golden brown natural patina, partially obscured by verdigris and traces of sinter. Of cylindrical section with a ring shaped handle. Decorated with 15 lotus bud motifs in two rows. Slightly buckled due to usage, the base concave, with cracks. H 14.8, D 18.7 cm, weight c. 8 kg.
Attributed to Khorasan/ Iran, 10th C.
