A large English mortar monogrammed DF

Thickly cast golden brown bronze with dark brown patina. Tapering mortar on a thick base. The lower section decorated with two bands of moulding, the upper section with four C-shaped handles, monogrammed DF and X (presumably the foundry mark). The base slightly concave due to usage, with x-shaped cracking, some minor dents to the rim, verdigris. H 23.6, D 29.5 cm, includes a double-ended pestle. Weight with pestle c. 22 kg.
