A large wedding mortar made for Martin Doeulle and Anne Deschiere

Thickly cast bronze with chocolate brown patina. Bell-shaped mortar with a thick, stepped base and flaring rim. Decorated with several bands of moulding and tracery motifs. Inscribed below the rim in Latin capital letters: "MARTIN DOEVLLE ANNE DESCHIERE M CCCCC L IV". Wear to the rim in some areas, minor wear due to usage to the underside. H 25.4, D 36.4 cm, weight c. 39.5 kg.
Attributed to Belgium or Northern France, 1557.
