A large Baroque mortar with heraldic decor

Thickly cast golden brown bronze with shimmering natural patina. Cylindrical mortar resting on a thick base. Decorated with large bands of moulding, one side bearing a crowned coat-of-arms with a vacant banderole flanked by palm fronds. Engraved on either side with the (partially illegible) date "1685". With embossed decor around the handles. H 25.2, D 24 cm, weight c. 24.5 kg.
Attributed to Southern Germany, presumably 1685.
