A Dresden silver platter

Oval, scalloped platter with a moulded rim. The broad border subsequently engraved with the monogram of Duke Friedrich Franz I of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Engraved on the underside with inventory "No. 1", weight "3 Mk 3 L", and the letter P. L 36; W 23.8 cm, weight 736 g.
Marks of Johann Benjamin Langenwagen, 1752.

Friedrich Franz I (1756 - 1837) was the reigning Duke of Mecklenburg from 1785, and Grand Duke of Mecklenburg in the Mecklenburg-Schwerin district from 1815 onwards. The coat of arms was probably engraved around 1785, after he had inherited the title from his uncle, Duke Friedrich (called the Pious).
