A pair of Hamburg silver platters

Oval scalloped platters with moulded rims engraved with the arms of the Hamburg Kellinghusen family. L 44.5; W 33.8 cm, total weight 2,663 g.
Marks of Johann Friederich Wiese, around 1750.

The Kellinghusen are one of the oldest families in Hamburg; the earliest herald is recorded for the year 1557. For the period around 1750, Joachim, Johann, Heinrich and Lucas Kellinghusen come into consideration as the possible owners of these platters, all of whom held a number of honorary municipal offices.
