A late 17th century polychrome terracotta relief of the penitent Saint Jerome

This relief depicts the kneeling Saint Jerome dressed in a loincloth in a rocky landscape. The lion accompanies him as his identifying attribute alongside an arrangement of books, a crucifix and a cardinal's hat. With a diagonal hairline crack to the upper left, the upper right corner replaced with plaster, loss of colour to the frame. H 16.5, W 16.8 cm. In a contemporary gilt softwood frame H 23.2, W 23.5 cm.
