A South German tabernacle writing cabinet

Wallnut, burr walnut, boxwood, cherry, palisander and mother-of-pearl marquetry on oak and softwood corpus, ebonised wood, brass mountings, later textil lining. With three-drawered lower section, central drop front writing surface between two sets of tiered drawers and single doored upper section with a curved, breakfront pediment above. Decorated on three faces with marquetry; the tabernacle door depicting a female allegory with a sceptre and crown, the front with a bear hunt, the sides with birds and grapes. Two drawer pulls lost, the lock plates amended, the upper drawer lock not attached but included separately, shellack slightly yellowed. In good overall condition. H 207.5, W 122.5, D 71.5 cm.
