A carved wooden angel with a candlestick, presumably Franconia, around 1500

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened and only partially worked. With extensive remains of older polychromy, the skin partially retouched. A figure of an angel standing in a contrapposto stance facing slightly towards the left, designed for a frontal viewpoint. The figure holds a candlestick in both hands. A charming figure whose pose is highlighted by the drapery of its clothing.
Wear with minor losses throughout. Insect damage. The wings attached on the reverse presumably a later addition. Height 71 cm (with wings).
