A wood yosegi-zaiku smoker’s set. Late Edo period

The rectangular body with slender pillars of dark wood at the corners, with three drawers and two others behind a door and a tabakobon inserted at the left with three small drawers and a metal container for coals (hiire) with metal lid chased with a dragon amidst clouds. All sides with mosaic-like inlays of square pieces of kihada (cork tree) wood. Fittings, handles and lid of copper. Black lacquer to the inside. Inside at the back a character in ink probably referring to the maker. The bottom drawer and the left side a bit warped.
Height with cover 30.5 cm; width 33 cm; depth 19.1 cm
