A Shan lacquered wood figure of Buddha Shakyamuni. Burma. 19th century

Seated in meditation on an hourglass-shaped double lotus throne, the right hand in bhumisparshamudra, the left hand in dhyanamudra above the feet, the sangathi and borders of the robe decorated in relief, the head and ushnisha covered by tiny spiky curls. Red and black lacquer with gilding.
Height 77.5 cm
