A Sinotibetan gilt bronze figure of Tsongkhapa. 19th/20th century

The founder of the reformed Gelugpa order is seated in monk's robes (without his pointed hat) on a lotus throne and holds his hands at chest level in dharmacakra mudra, holding the stems of two lotus flowers, crowned at the sides at shoulder level by the khadga, the "sword of knowledge", and jewelled "book of wisdom". When portrayed as an elderly man he rarely wears a hat. A Tibetan inscription to the back of the base.
