A Large Thanka of Palden Lhamo. Tibet. 19th century
The dark-blue-skinned wrathful guardian goddess with flaming hair with skull crown seated upon her mule with an additional eye on the left flank, rides over a sea of blood from her slain enemies and is surrounded by smoke and flames. The bridle is made of poisonous snakes, the bag filled with evil diseases that Lhamo scatters against demons hangs on the forerunner, the dices about life and death dangle from it, the saddle of the flayed skin of her son and heads. In her left hand she holds a blood-filled skull (kapala) and in her raised right a ritual staff (danda). She is accompanied by the dolphin-headed, blue-skinned Makaravaktra who leads the mule and the red-skinned, lion-headed Simhavaktra. Ink, colour and gilt on cloth.

Sri Devi (dpal dan lha mo), the glorious goddess, is the only female among the eight major dharmapalas, the protectors of the dharma, originates from the Indian pantheon and is the Tibetan form of the ancient Indian goddess Shridevi. She is also the protector goddess of the Dalai Lamas and the city of Lhasa.

希裡黛瑋 (藏語拼音：dPal dan lha mo)，光榮的女神，是八大護法中唯一的女性，教義的保護者，最初來自印度萬神廟，是古印度女神Shridevi的西藏形式。她也是達賴喇嘛和拉薩城的守護神。
