A wooden coffer made for Prince Elector Maximilian II Emanuel of Bavaria

Palisander, walnut, burr walnut, stained wood, red and black backed (?) tortoiseshell, brass, pewter, mother of pearl, ivory and stained ivory. The slightly slanted lid emblazoned with the electoral arms of Bavaria supported by a crowned lion. The inside of the lid inset with an engraved depiction of a river landscape with ships. The outer faces with finely engraved hunting scenes. With earlier insect damage, the blue tortoiseshell slightly cracked, losses to the pigment. H 12.3, W 24.3, D 15.8 cm.
Munich, attributed to the workshop of Johann Puchwiser (c. 1680 – 1744), dated 1723.
