A taxidermy miniature of a bull

Made from animal fur, horn, glass and wood. With label of Galerie Schroth on the Rue de la Paix, Paris, on the underside. The fur worn somewhat thin. H with base 29.5. W 34.5, D 10 cm.
Attributed to Metz, Henri Fratin, first quarter 19th C.

These kinds of detailed, realistic representations of various animal species could have served as illustrations in schools or for amateur naturalists due to their reduced scale.

Henri Fratin is the father of the sculptor Christophe Fratin (1801-1864), who is best known for his animal sculptures.
