A pair of Meissen porcelain salts from a service for Count Finck von Finckenstein

Dulong model salt bowls decorated with Continental birds amid fruit and flowers. Blue crossed swords mark. Minor wear to the gilding. W 10.7 cm.
C. 1762.

These salts come from a dinner service presented by the Prussian King Frederick II to his minister and close confidant Karl Wilhelm Finck von Finckenstein (1714 - 1800). The occasion for the gift is thought to be the award of the Order of the Black Eagle, with which Finckenstein was decorated in 1762. The exact extent of the order is unknown. After remaining in the family for centuries, large parts of the service found their way onto the art market.

Provenance

Private collection Westphalia.
