A pair of Comté de Nice silver candlesticks

Round feet supporting tapering fluted shafts. Includes two separately worked flame finials. H 30.5 cm; the bases filled.

The county of Nice roughly corresponded to what is today the Département Alpes-Maritimes - and was originally part of Provence. Since 1388 it belonged - with an interruption of the French occupation from 1792 to 1814 - to the dominion of the House of Savoy.
