A kiri wood medicine chest (kusuri tansu). 19th century

Of rectangular shape, inside in the lower portion large drawers, above them on each side ten rows with five drawers each, the fronts with paper labels inscribed with the name of the medicine, pulls of copper, fittings, hinges and lock of iron. Minor damages due to age.
Height 83 cm; width 39.4 cm; depth 37.5 cm; width when open 75.2 cm; depth 19.7 cm

Such tansu were either used in shops or hinged for use as a peddlar's box.
