A cast zinc figure of St. George after August Karl Eduard Kiss (1802 - 1865)

Bronze-plated cast zinc figure on an ebonised wood base. H 33, with base 37, outer edges W 22.5, D 14.5 cm.
Attributed to foundry of Anton Meves, Berlin, after 1862.

A life-sized plaster model of this sculpture was presented at the Paris World Fair in 1855, where it received an award. A cast version was presented in 1862 at the Great London Exposition. A version measuring over 5 metres in height, originally placed in the Eosanderhof at Berlin Palace, stands today on the banks of the river Spree in the Nikolaiviertel.
