A high-backed chair attributed to Ludwig Paffendorf (1872 - 1949)

Solid mahongany with clear varnish, seat upholstered with horsehair, the base closed with an iron panel, the back upholstered in flat kapok with yellow raspberry patterned silk damask reconstructed from the original cover, triangular brass studs also reconstructed from the original. H 109, W 46, seat depth 45.5 cm.
Around 1905.

Ludwig Paffendorf (1872 - 1949) was born in Cologne and studied architecture in Berlin and Stuttgart. He worked in Prague with Friedrich Ohmann before setting up his own business in Cologne. He later became a member of the Deutscher Werkbund and was heavily involved in the Cologne Werkbund Exhibition of 1914.
