A large Dresden silver salver made for the Princes of Hohenzollern-Hechingen

Round, scalloped platter with moulded rim. The broad border engraved with the coat-of-arms of the house of Hohenzollern-Hechingen beneath a canopy and crown, alongside the motto "NIHIL SINE DEO". Diameter 38.8 cm, weight 1,331 g.
Marks of Moritz Elimeyer, around 1850.

This coat-of-arms is documented in this form as early as 1842. The House of Hohenzollern-Hachingen was an independent principality until 1850, after which it became a Prussian possession. It is striking that in the present coat-of-arms the hounds of the Zoller family still serve as heraldic bearers and not yet the Prussian Wild Men. Instead of the princely crown that was customary until 1850, however, a royal crown was chosen to be placed above the escutcheon and the canopy.
