A pair of silver candlesticks made for King Frederik VI of Denmark and Norway

Elliptical bases with foliate decor supporting slender tapering shafts, the protruding shoulders with laurel relief, the vase-shaped nozzles with corresponding decor and separately attached drip pans. The shafts engraved with the monogram FR VI beneath the Danish crown. H 28.5 cm, weight 773 g.
Copenhagen, marks of Caspar Julius Worm, 1817.

Caspar Julius Worm was one of the most important Danish silversmiths of the late Empire period - and alongside the Copenhagen court goldsmith Nicolai Christensen, he took on numerous commissions from the royal family - including for the extensive silverware ordered in 1829 on the occasion of Princess Caroline's wedding to Prince Frederik Ferdinand.
