After studying at the Cologne Werkschule, Wilhelm Nagel was appointed head of the silversmithing class there as early as 1952. In 1964, he took on additional responsibility for the goldsmiths' class - and from 1971, he headed the art and design department at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences.
