Marks of Wilhelm Nagel, 1954.

After studying at the Cologne Werkschule, Wilhelm Nagel was appointed head of the silversmithing class there as early as 1952. In 1964, he took on additional responsibility for the goldsmiths' class - and from 1971, he headed the art and design department at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences. In 37 years of teaching, he influenced generations of goldsmiths and silversmiths - and left an impressive oeuvre. His uncompromising demand for formal language and material remained a touchstone for each of his designs - be it a bishop's ring or the DFB Cup..
