A carved wood Pietà group, presumably Central Rhine Region, around 1450/1460

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened. With presumably largely original older polychromy, partially overpainted. A figure of the Virgin sitting on a stone, cradling the body of Her dead Son in Her arms. A devotional image designed for a slightly lowered viewpoint with the body of Christ turned towards the beholder.
Left forearms of Christ and Mary lacking. Losses due to insect damage to the crown of thorns. Vertical hairline cracks and wear. Height 37.5 cm.
