A bronze figure of a samurai archer. Around 1900

Kneeling and about to shoot an arrow, a short sword tucked into his belt, the garments displaying mon-like patters (sasarindo, bird and rinbô). Mounted on a carved wooden table-like stand.
Total height 47.7 cm

Provenance

According to the consignor, from the estate of art historian Marie Netz who travelled in China and Japan and probably taught European art history in Nanking in the years 1904 to 1914.
