A lacquer suzuribako by Shirazaki Rissan. Mid-20th century

Of elongated form with bevelled sides, the lid displaying two cormorants on a coastal fort, clouds in the sky in black and beige-coloured lacquer with details in a little gold, silver, red and brown lacquer. black lacquer to the inside. Signed to the reverse of the lid: Rissan saku. Tomobako, inscription on the reverse of the lid reading: u (cormorant) makie suzuribako and signed Rissan saku and sealed Shirazaki Rissan. Yellow cloth. Inside the box a Japanese newspaper dated 20.3.1959.
