A carved wood figure of Christ as the Man of Sorrows, presumably Swabia, around 1500

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse hollowed out. With remnants of older polychromy. Depiction of Christ in the crown of thorns, wearing a cloak and with His hands bound before Him, designed for a frontal and slightly lowered viewpoint. This devotional figure derives much of its expressive character from the simplicity of its design.
With vertical hairline cracks, backed with canvas in the lower section on the reverse. Wear with losses to the plinth. Height 124 cm.
