A wood and ivory figure of Seiōbō, the Queen Mother of the West. Around 1900

In a dancing pose with a raised arm, the right hand holding a stiff fan carved with a rain dragon in waves, the richly ornamented headdress displaying a central phoenix, the wind-swept robe carved with phoenixes and small clouds on a finely stippled ground. Head, hands, attributes and shoes of ivory, eyes inlaid. Signed Kōun on an inlaid ivory tablet. Cracks in the wood, some ivory parts with remains of glue, tiny losses. Firmly mounted on a table-like stand. Together with another wooden stand, restored. (2)
