A large copper alloy Jain altar. Western India. Gujarat/Rajasthan. Dated 1468

Three completely naked tirthankara, each standing in kayotsaega under a
canopy on a pedestal with yaksha, yakshi and lions,
surrounded by twenty-one jina, and at the borders of the arch yak tail carriers, elephants and
rising makara. The base with the wheel of the Law flanked by gazelles, the Nine
Planets (navagraha) and two donor figures with hands in anjalimudra (one head missing). Inscription at the backside, dated 1525 (1468).
