An Augsburg Renaissance silver gilt tankard

Tapering vessel with scroll handle on a wide basal ring. Decorated with finely engraved scrollwork on a matte ground. The domed lid with corresponding decor and scroll thumb rest. The finial formed as a sitting lion holding a shield. Engraved on the underside with an arms of alliance, on the heraldic right presumably the arms of the Valais von Werra family. H 14 cm, weight 372 g.
Marks of Hieronymus Imhof, 1618 - 1622.
