A Rhenish "minnekästchen" box

Carved limewood box constructed with wrought iron nails and with a bolt at the front. Two griffons to the lid, and a motto in Gothic script. The base with an old paper label with an inventory number. Minor traces of earlier insect damage, in good condition for its age. Lid replaced. H 8.5, W 17.5, D 13 cm.
Attributed to the Upper Rhine region, first half 15th C.
