A bronze bust of a first century Roman lady

Realistic portrait of a lady with curled hair, wearing a palla. H 15.7, H with modern base 33.8 cm.
France or Italy, 17th / 18th C.

This bust could, for example, have been modelled on the marble bust of a Roman Empress from the Flavian era in the Glyptothek in Munich. This hairstyle was also taken up by Barthélemy Prieur (1540 - 1611) for his bronze statue of Maria de' Medici as Juno (Louvre, Inv. OA 11055).
