A carved limewood figure of St. Dorothy, Thuringia, around 1520

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened and hollowed out. The polychromy presumably largely the original, partially overpainted. A figure of the saint standing in contrapposto, designed for a frontal viewpoint, wearing a crown and holding her attribute, a basket, in her hands. The composition of this finely carved work is dominated by the arrangement of the gilded cloak, which falls in thick vertical and rounded horizontal folds over her floor-length gown.
