Rombout Verhulst, attributed to

A terracotta bust of a man, attributed to Rombout Verhulst

Sculpted in the round, the lower part of the reverse hollowed out, the hair on the reverse only summarily worked. This imposing bust depicts a man with long hair wearing a fur trimmed coat over a jacket with ornate buttons and a Spanish collar. The composition of the work bears some resemblance to the sculptures of Rombout Verhulst from the years 1660/1670. Verhulst was heavily influenced by Artus Quellinus and active in Amsterdam and the northern Netherlands.
The front right corner of the plinth loose. A hairline crack on the left side of the fur collar. Wear with minor losses. 62 x 58 x 32 cm.
