A four-case inro by Kajikawa. 19th century

Displaying the Zen-Patriarch Daruma crossing the Yangzi on a reed, the reverse with five Chinese characters above waves in gold takamakie and hiramakie and a little hirame on a shiny black ground, Nashiji and fundame to the inside. Signed Kajikawa saku and pot seal reading Ei (Hide) in red lacquer. Marine ivory ojime in shape of a Daruma doll and a marine ivory netsuke of a standing Daruma. 19th century.

The characters on the reverse can be read "Hossho shin jo kai" and translated "The dharma nature truth is like the ocean".
