A Kyoto ivory netsuke of Gama sennin by Yoshinaga. Second half 18th century

Seated with a leafy cloak around his shoulder, propped up on his left hand, the right hand supporting a three-legged toad standing on his knee, the garment engraved with a cloud pattern, the borders with a zigzag pattern. The large eyes of the toad of highly polished black horn. Signed Yoshinaga in an oval cartouche. Small reworked chip to the garment border beneath the belly.

Private collection, Rhineland Palatinate, acquired in the German art trade in the 1970s/1980s
