A rare softwood netsuke of a sennin. Early 18th century

Standing on tiptoes, with a slightly twisted body and stretching his arms high above his head and clasping the hands, the figure appears to rise to the sky. The folds of garment, belt and leggings are rendered by deep grooves and the leafy apron around the hips is formed by six large veined leaves. Old damage to the toes.
