Rao Holkar, der spätere Maharadscha von Indore, hatte in Oxford mit dem Architekten Eckart Muthesius (1904-1989) studiert und ließ sich später zahlreiche Gebäude von ihm errichten. In seiner Autobiographie erinnert sich Man Ray an die Begegnung mit dem Maharadscha. (vgl. Man Ray, Self Portrait, New York 1963, S. 172-175) Hier heißt es unter anderem: "The Maharaja of Indore came to the studio to be photographed, also in Western clothes-sack suite and formal evening dress. He was young, tall and very elegant." (ebd., S. 172).
