The large-sized panorama shows the city of Rome in its dimensions before the extensive building activities at its periphery which startet in 1871 in connection with the Unification of Rome with the Kingdom of Italy, when Rome became the new capital. Domenico Anderson, who later overtook the business of his father James Anderson (1813-1877), was very young when the photograph was taken. This may be the reason for former attributions to his father regardless of the mention of Domenico Anderson as photographer.
