A walrus tusk manjû with a menuki of a shôjô by a sake cask, by Mitsu. Mid-19th century

The soft metal menuki in shape of a shôjô seated by a cask fully tied up and with logo of the brewer inlaid in gold has been set into a ryûsa-type manjû carved in openwork with curtains and a large drum used in court music (gagaku), on the reserve a torii, a stone lantern, pine branches and clouds. Signed with the seal character Mitsu (Kô) in a round reserve.
