An Edo/Tokyo school ivory manjû of Shôki and oni, by Kômin. Second half 19th century

Carved in sunken relief with Shôki crouching over a huge travelling hat with which he has captured an oni, his drawn sword placed to the side, on the reverse a sanbô with a box of beans, a holly branch and a sardine's head, all objects employed to dispel oni. Signed Kômin with red kaô.
