A boxwood netsuke of three monkeys, by Masachika. Second half 19th century

Two monkeys are sitting side by side and squabbling over a pumpkin with a long stalk and a leaf, while a third monkey climbs over their backs. The eyes of the sitting monkeys double-inlaid in horn, the eye pupils of the top monkey of black horn. Signed Masachika in an oval cartouche reserved from the fur.
