An Edo school ivory peg manju of Benkei. Mid-19th century

Carved in sunken relief with Benkei to kodomo. Dressed as a yamabushi in typical attire, Benkei holding a staff and with a long sword, in front of him a peasant boy in a happi coat gathering pine needles. On the reverse his basket and a sickle.
