PAIR OF BAMUM POSTS
Foumban, Cameroon Grasslands

157 and 154 cm. high

A series of black and white photographs in Défap (the Service Protestant de Mission archives) depict a man embroidering seated on a veranda. The roof is supported on carved posts, two of which can be clearly identified as being in this and the following lot. The photos are attributed to Daniel Broussous, Fernand Perret and Anna Wuhrmann. One of the images, said to be by Anna Wuhrmann, was used in the Evangelical Missions calendar of 1951. At the time the photographs were taken the posts were already eroded and must have been some decades old. They very likely date from the 1930s or earlier.
