Half-figure, limewood, remains of original polychromy, Franconian, c. 1500 (GR 2.370)
With minor wear, cracks to the sides with old restorations. Height 63 cm.

A Franconian limewood figure of the mourning Virgin, c. 1500. Carved in the round and hollowed out, remains of the original polychromy. A bust of the Virgin Mary with hands upheld and folded, her head slightly lowered and turned towards her left shoulder. She wears a veil over her head and chin and a richly draped mantle. The attribution of the figure to Franconia goes back to Georg Swarzenski, author of the Helbing auction catalogue from 1930.
