A black patinated cast iron bust of Wilhelm I of Württemberg.

A rare, finely chased cast with a smooth, shiny surface. A bust of the young King based on Classical Roman models. The cast slightly thin to the back of the head. H 25.8 cm.
Probably Prussia, 1st half 19th C., modelled by Johann Heinrich Dannecker, ca. 1817/20.

Dannecker modelled the young King shortly after his ascencion to the throne in 1817. He first made a plaster model, and shortly after two marble busts which are now owned by the Princes of Wied and the Kunstsammlung Weimar. Nothing has been published so far regarding the casting of the bronze version. Friedrich Wilhelm Karl reigned as second King under the name Wilhelm I until 1864 - nearly 50 years.
