A Italian gold-mounted tortoiseshell snuff box with Roman micromosaic decor.

With ozier pattern relief decor. The opening button and mountings of gold. With a fine micromosaic plaque to the lid with a couple in Roman costume. 4 x 8 x 6 cm.
Late 18th / early 19th C.

The motif of the micromosaic, showing a couple making music and dancing a saltarello, is based on the prints in Bartolomeo Pinelli's (1781 - 1835) "Danzatori in Costume Romano".
