A late Roman gold intaglio ring.

A Nicolo imitating glass paste intaglio depicting the standing Mercury, mounted in a rare chased ring with floral head. Diameter top of ring 2 cm. Ring size 54. Weight 8.8 g.
4th/5th C. AD, the setting possibly Frankonian (6th/7th C. AD.).

Provenance

Formerly collection of William Hulton, High Sheriff of Lancashire (1787 - 1864). - Private collection, England.
