A shibuichi tsuba. Late 19th century

A shibuichi tsuba of nade-gakugata shape with a raised rim displaying Hotei with a large travelling hat, a staff and a bag in his hand in iroe takazôgan, on the reverse a pine in engraving, signed Teishitsu gigei in Hôshû Shômin with kaô in flat gold inlay. Late 19th century. Wooden box inscribed on the lid "Tsuba Hotei no zu" and inside the lid a description of the tsuba, dated Shôwa mizunoto ushi (1973) and signed Kanzan with two seals (= Satô Kanzan, 1907-1978).
