South German second half 16th century

A South German fire gilt bronze figure of Eve in paradise, second half 16th century.

This figure of Eve would have been accompanied by a figure of Adam to form a group representing the original sin. The small bronze is highly similar to a piece by the Nuremberg goldsmith Hans Kellner (active 1582 - 1609) from a table centrepiece formed as the garden of paradise kept in the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum in Munich, indicating that this work was possibly also manufactured in Nuremberg.
One finger lost, otherwise in good condition. Mounted on a modern wooden socle. Height 13.5 cm (without socle).

Provenance

The Dr. Bernhard Decker Collection.
